OpenRSM project is a lightweigth, OpenSource project for remote management of workstations. OpeRSM combines a number of open source projects in order to provide an integrated mangement environment with the following core functionality:

* Inventory and assets management
* Remote control
* Software delivery
* Remote procedure call

System architecture

The system is composed by three major components, the OpenRSM server, the OpenRSM User Console and the Agent. These components interact in order to provide the core functionality mentioned above. The console is the component that accepts user input and conveys it to the server. The server is responsible for bussiness logic enforcement and action coordination. The agent is the passive component that that resides on the managed stations and accepts commands from the server.

The server comprises of the following components of implemented sever logic:

* Network monitoring
* Asset management and Inventory
* Remote control sever
* Software delivery
* Integration module

The above components have not been built from scratch. Istead, suitable opensource tools have been used and extended according to needs. Network monitoring has been based on NINO Network Management System, a full featured network management platfrom based on SNMP technology. The inventory subsystems has been based on Winventory Assets management web application. The remote control technology used is UltraVNC , the well-known remote desktop tool. Software delivery has been based on win-get . The primary goal of OpenRSM has been to integrate these tools properly so that it can deliver unified systems and network mangement service. This is the role of the OpenRSM Integration Server Frontend module, which synchronizes all the components by acuiring user requests, scheduling them and dispatching to the proper subystem.
