sir paki post po yung config mo sa samba baka kasi may kulang ka sa samba...

pero basically ganito lang po yung basic configuration nya:

at smb.conf

[data] -----> shared folder name
valid users = joel -----> allow user to access this shared folder
path = /home/bigtemp -----> path of shared folder
public = yes
printable = no
valid users = erics
writable = yes
browseable = yes

after mo po ma configure yung smb.conf tama yung pag add mo yung user sa smbpasswd.

#smbpasswd -a joel

how do you access the shared folder (in fedora) from a windows workstation? by using the ip address of the fedora machine? or via the hostname?

do you use a domain server (or something like it)?

sorry, just want to get more ideas. i have been trying to, through rhel 4... but cannot seem to make it work... i believe i have followed sir aeon's sample as described here:

puwedeng IP or hostname. kung nka set ng maayos ang hostname ng linux mo at domain pwd m sya i access tru hostname pero puwede mo rin sya i access tru IP.

go to start--> run--> cmd---> \\ipaddress or hostname of linux file server

pero syempre need mo nka enable ang SAMBA service ng linux mo

di ko pa din maaccess tong samba/linux box sa windows network. hahahaha!!

sir:
1. hostname, binago ko na into different types, until napag-isipan ko na lang na 89 character hostname na lang gawin ko. hehehe...

2. sa Linux, ginawa ko ay: punta ako sa Applications -> System Settings -> Network -> (under the Network Configuration window) punta ako sa DNS tabpage and changed my Hostname to youfsrvr. Ginaawa ko to kasi the first I did not do it, merong warning/error na sinasabi hinahanap ung hostname na equivalent sa 1, kasi ay:

3. sa /etc/hosts, nag add ako ng isang line to point to the IP address nitong Linux/Samba machine ko... like:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain youfsrvr localhost
192.168.1.7 youfsrvr.localdomain youfsrvr

dun sa 127.0.0.1 na line, di ko ininclude ung youfsrvr na value. nagulat na lang ako na napunta sya dun ng kusa! hahaha!!

so ayun, I tried restarting samba and even network services like:
/etc/init.d/samba/smb restart
/etc/init.d/samba/network restart

nabasa ko pa nga yung:
/sbin/service smb restart
/sbin/service network restart

i tried both, and mukhang pareho naman ginagawa.. hehe.. sorry po, nanghuhula lang...

so, un, ano po kaya ang maling ginagawa ko??

i restarted nga pala the linux machine...
checked under Application -> System Settings -> Server Settings -> Services
ang galing! di pala nakacheck ung smb na .. kaya pala pag nag-re-restart ako from commandline, unang 2 messages na nakikita ko ay FAILED sa Shutting down SMB services at sa NMB services.

CORRECTUM:

parang panget pakinggan ung correctum ah... correction ibig kong sabihin dun. hahaha!!
