Happy First Anniversary PH-LWUG!
“Some people think only intellect counts: knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion and empathy.”
Im very happy that we're now "1 year and counting".
I've found a new friend, brother, & a sister. We have common goals to serve others and share our talents. We cooperate and stand as ONE. I hope and I pray that this TEAM will last. It's like my second family.
I've learned a lot with you guys!

How to lower gas prices - this needs teamwork
THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO P30.00 PER LITER.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!! !!

Goodbye to Windows XP
Microsoft XP will be going off the market by the end of June 2008. So what will happen to XP then? People are more confused than ever. All it means is that Microsoft will stop selling the OS and hence finding a computer with XP preinstalled will most likely rare. It’s not much of a problem for most users as one can find any Microsoft product (even the ancient MS DOS) simply by searching online.
So does this all mean that one should move on to Vista?? They probably should within a few years especially since new software and peripherals are likely to stop working with XP. Microsoft will stop releasing non-security software updates to the masses by April 2009.
But the company will continue to sell XP till 2010 to makers of ultra-cheap laptops, that can’t run Vista like the Asus Eee PC. It is believed that Microsoft may shut down the product activation of XP by 2014. Even if it does so the hacker community will certainly make dozens of tools to let you use XP.

Fedora 9 aka. Rawhide

From: http://www.phoronix.com/
The beta release of Fedora 9 has been pushed back another week to March 20, because of stability issues, but to see the progress made by the Fedora / Red Hat developers we did a clean Rawhide installation. Some of the features that have been shaping up well for Fedora 9 include EXT4 file-system support, encrypted file-system support, Firefox 3.0 integration, GCC 4.3 support, enhanced NetworkManager capabilities with "out of the box" support mobile broadband (GSM/CDMA) devices, inclusion of PackageKit, and Upstart replacing SysVinit. Some of the packages currently making up Fedora 9 include GNOME 2.21.92, Linux 2.6.25 RC, X Server 1.5.0 RC 0, and OpenOffice.org 2.4.0. For your viewing pleasure, here are a few screenshots of the latest Fedora 9 Rawhide code as of today.

LWUG - Trivia: Genders
Just to make everyone happy.
I've noticed here and even at TPC Thread, even Private Messages that most repapips address weng17 as madam, miss, etc...
In general, we denote Weng as a name of a local girl (feminine). However in our case, and for all your information, Weng17 is a HE (formerly SHE), just kidding but he's HE.
If you want to validate, take a look at our frontpage group photo and he's the one sitting with eyeglasses or try to visit our Photo Gallery for clearer viewing.
