It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk. It contains a lot of system utilities (parted, partimage, fstools, ...) and basic tools (editors, midnight commander, network tools). It is very easy to use: just boot the CDROM. So you've got that spiffy new Windows Vista system built, complete with
BitLocker encryption, which you hope is going to keep your data out of
the hands of folks with prying eyes. And you've also got your Mac OS X

Goodbye to Windows XP
Microsoft XP will be going off the market by the end of June 2008. So what will happen to XP then? People are more confused than ever. All it means is that Microsoft will stop selling the OS and hence finding a computer with XP preinstalled will most likely rare. It’s not much of a problem for most users as one can find any Microsoft product (even the ancient MS DOS) simply by searching online.
So does this all mean that one should move on to Vista?? They probably should within a few years especially since new software and peripherals are likely to stop working with XP. Microsoft will stop releasing non-security software updates to the masses by April 2009.
But the company will continue to sell XP till 2010 to makers of ultra-cheap laptops, that can’t run Vista like the Asus Eee PC. It is believed that Microsoft may shut down the product activation of XP by 2014. Even if it does so the hacker community will certainly make dozens of tools to let you use XP.
